Tommy Emmanuel

Tommy Emmanuel is an Australian guitarist known for solo acoustic-guitar performance and fingerstyle playing, building arrangements from melody, accompaniment, and rhythm on a single instrument. He began touring Australia as a child in his family band, then worked as a session musician and sideman before starting his solo career in 1979. His music draws on acoustic pop, jazz, classical music, and roots styles, while his recorded work is especially associated with instrumental guitar music.

Emmanuel also collaborated with guitarist Chet Atkins, who awarded him the honorary Certified Guitar Player designation. At the 2024 Grammy Awards, Emmanuel shared the award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella with John Carter Cash, Markus Illko, Janet Robin, and Roberto Luis Rodriguez for “Folsom Prison Blues.” The recognition reflects his work not only as a guitarist but also as an arranger in guitar-based music.
