Bjarni Sveinbjörnsson

Bjarni Sveinbjörnsson is an Icelandic bassist and music teacher whose work is chiefly associated with jazz and jazz rock. He first studied guitar and bass at Tónskóli Sigursveins, then continued bass studies at the FÍH music school. In 1985, he graduated in bass performance from the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. He has worked professionally as a bassist for decades, appearing in concert and recording settings as well as teaching at music schools.

Bjarni is the bassist in Gammar, a band that performs original jazz-rock music. His work with the group places him in projects where jazz, rock, and improvisation meet, and he has also performed with numerous Icelandic musicians. In 2009, he released his own album, About Time, made up of original material. The record includes compositions developed over an extended period and was his first solo release.
